Radiology has gradually made the shift to digital over the last several years in an effort to evolve with newer, safer technologies to check for a number of conditions, from fractures to bone disorders. Radiology is a diagnostic tool that has become critical to proper diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions within the orthopedic field. We are proud to host a full digital radiology department at our AFC Urgent Care facility in South Plainfield.
Conditions Diagnosed Through Digital Radiology
Many injuries related to athletics, falls, trips and accidents can be diagnosed through digital x-rays, including:
- Bone fractures
- Bone conditions affecting your neck, back, and spine, including scoliosis
- Joint damage
- Shoulder and elbow damage
Benefits of Using Digital Radiology
Digital radiology benefits from advancements in technology, providing a clearer picture of what is going on in your muscles and bones and what is causing your pain. Since the images are digitally captured, the quality is superior to those captured by older machines, providing cleaner and crisper images, with the ability to zoom in and out when viewed onscreen. This makes it easier to find and diagnose hairline fractures and smaller tears, allowing for a more comprehensive diagnosis. Previous forms of radiology required a wait for film to be developed, taking up to several hours of painfully waiting in an ER or clinic for previous rolls to be processed and analyzed. Digital x-ray images can be processed in less than half a minute and require less exposure to harmful radiation, making it an overall safer experience. Digital files are also easier to keep track of; you won’t need to worry about lost films and prints for your medical records.
